South Dakota is the 17th largest US state in north-central United States or the Midwest, and Great Plains region with total land area of 77,121 square miles and bordered by North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Montana. The state capital of South Dakota is Pierre and Sioux Falls is the largest city. South Dakota is the 5th least populous and least densely populated of the 50 United States.
